Biography

Harry Bernard Cross was born on the sixteenth of December1947 in one of the districts of London - Paddington. He grew up in a Catholic family, his parents were Irish from the working class. The boy's mother worked as a cleaner, and her father as a nurse and a doorman. On stage Ben appeared early and tried himself in various roles in school plays. He attended Devonport High School, then Plymouth High School. But there the boy was intimidated by the teacher, after which Ben left home at the age of fifteen.

After leaving the house, he worked as a waiter, a window washer, a carpenter, and he also acted as a property owner in a theater.

At the age of 22, a young man was admitted to the famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.

Career

After graduating from the Academy, Cross worked inseveral London theaters. In the movie first appeared in 1976, playing a small role as a soldier in the military drama "The Bridge is too far." A year later, Ben was one of the members of the Royal Troupe, whose repertoire includes works by Shakespeare.

In 1978, Benn Cross played a lawyer inthe production of "Chicago", so began the actor's way to success and fame. During the game in the play, many directors noticed him and began to invite him to the cinema. So, in 1981 the sports drama "Fiery Chariots" came out, which received four Oscars and several awards of the Cannes Festival and BAFTA.
